Children learn basic Ukulele in groups or individually. Rockness Music supplies Ukuleles and notebooks containing instructional diagrams and chord sheets. Classes meet once a week for 30 to 60 minutes. Children learn the anatomy of the instrument, and various chords. With instruction and practice they learn to link the chords into songs and play in unison. An end of program concert is encouraged for parents and family to attend. (Wholesale ukulele purchasing options available).
Children design, build and decorate their own bucket drum. Our expert instructor guides them through drumming exercises. Classes meet once a week for 30 to 60 minutes. The children learn syncopation, proper sticking, beat, rhythm and performance. Children are supplied with music notebooks and taught the basics of musical notation for drumming (whole notes through 16th notes and rests). Each seminar is concluded by each participant performing on the drum they have crafted in our beginner’s drum circle. Children read and drum along. A concert (at end of program) is encouraged for family to attend. The program promotes concentration, design, social skills, team skills, listening skills and memorization skills.
What is the oldest instrument in the world? A drum! What was it used for; What is it used for now? How does it work? As we investigate various drums through out the duration of the class (djembe, ashiko, talking, cajon, udu, bongo) the children learn about the cultures they derive from, and their place in the world. We also investigate the anatomy of the instrument, discover how it works and allow everyone to have a turn playing them each week. Children are supplied with music books and taught the basics of musical notation for drumming (whole notes through 16th notes and rests). Each seminar is concluded by supplying each participant with drums and sticks to performing group drumming in our beginner’s drum circle. Children read and drum along. Group drumming reinforces listening and verbal skills, offers creative collaboration, and a celebrate of life.
