Winter Wonder Mommy and Me Music Classes

Thanks for joining us for our ten-week Winter Wonder Mommy and Me Classes!

Preschool of Rock embraces the child in all of us, giving parents the advantage of aiding their child’s learning explorations.  Winter Wonder offers the freedom and knowledge to keep exploring, discovering, and learning a bit more every day as our children prepare to attend preschool and kindergarten.

Together with you, Preschool of Rock would like to bring awareness to the new experiences our world has in store for our children every day. Let’s take the time to listen and look at everything a little closer.

Reminisce your childhood!

Remember the wonder we felt as a child when we experienced new things?  The wonder when we heard a sound for the first time, stepped on crunchy ice, held a guitar, or had our first ice cream cone?

These new discoveries are an important learning experience and a beautiful time of life. Regardless of what we do, our children will discover new things every day. If we help apply ourselves as parents, our children’s discoveries will be embellished. We hope that the discovery, and wonder that is Preschool of Rock will find it’s way into your home.

Perhaps you will discover the music a dishwasher, a tea kettle, or even your hands and feet can make.  Check out Preschool of Rock’s Everything Makes a Sound video to get some ideas! There is no better time than winter to explore new things in your own home, and we are excited to help!

Use your imagination!

We are going to act like robots, grow like solid oak, cook pancakes and, with our sense of wonder, discover new sounds, songs, and make new friends. Lets all be inspired by our…..

Performing in outdoor venues like parks and backyards works great too! We will perform anywhere we can assure that your children are safe and the instruments will remain clean and sanitary.

Registering for a party is easy:

All party submissions are answered promptly.

How Many Kids Per Party?

Our parties are for 15 children / $5 for every additional child over 15.

How Much Space Do We Need For The Party?

We are very flexible with the amount of space required. The children will need room to dance as well as room enough to sit in our “circle time” setting.

As long as there is a safe, clean space for the number of children invited, we can perform in any space at any location.

For the children we bring shakers, dancing props, and individual drums and sticks.

The performer shows up 30 minutes early. Setup takes about 15 minutes and is minimal, self contained, and not disruptive to the family or party attendees.

There is no amplification, so the singing and guitar playing is of an acoustic volume. We have never had a complaint in any building, apartment, restaurant or any other location.

How About The Instructors My Kids Will Be Learning From?

Preschool of Rock instructors are experts at working with your children.

Our instructors teach in preschools and daycares as full time music teachers. They interact with every age range from babies, toddlers and kindergartners through 12 year olds on a daily basis.

How We Keep Your Children Engaged

Our high energy and enthusiastic delivery gets children excited about the music and what’s coming next!

All Preschool of Rock songs are written with children in mind. The songs are directly influenced by moments spent with children in class settings, preschools, enrichment classes, and with our own children right here at home. Our songs entice immediate action and participation from your children. They draw your children in, and engage them to perform with the instructor.

We target our songs toward recognition and response. Children don’t need to know the music, the music tells them what to do. It’s upbeat, thoughtful, intelligent and most of all rockin!

Will My 1 Year Old Really Enjoy It?

Our teachers provide individual attention to each child, even in a larger group setting.

We care and kids can tell!

Why Do Babies Love Our Shows?

Babies love the music, the action, and watching cousins and friends interact! See what parents are saying. Our First Birthday Parties in New Jersey ROCK!!!!

  • “Amazing – Preschool of Rock was the biggest hit. No one can stop talking about it!!”
  • “OMG! Everything…was so amazing. So many compliments on Preschool of Rock – even the adults got in on the action.”
  • “Many of the parents of the older kids told me that this was the best performance that they have ever seen at a birthday a party.”

Should Parents Participate Too?

In any performance, the performers are the stars. They feed heavily off the energy level of their audience. This works the same in all Preschool of Rock performances. We encourage adults to participate because the more you’re engaged, the more your children will be also. The more participants, the better the show!

Preschool of Rock encourages family participation, which is our entire goal, to enable families to have fun making music together.

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, children of all ages (even the older kids) will have a blast at any first birthday parties in New Jersey or New York with Preschool of Rock!

We, at Preschool of Rock have a new ORIGINAL ROCKIN’ Christmas song for you to enjoy!  With more music from your favorite Mommy and Me Music class, Preschool of Rock brings you the joy of the Christmas season with a family song for children of all ages!  Check out our interview with POR’s own, Michael Napolitano- if you keep reading, we have a free download for you.

Tell us about the NEW Preschool of Rock Christmas song. What was your inspiration for this?

I think I have to start with a little personal history. Christmas music is a beautiful and a very specific art form. What I mean is, Christmas music needs to be listened to in the right context. Honestly, I can’t bear it before Thanksgiving or after New Years. Even during the fuzzy christmas season too much of it gets on my nerves – so I spread it out – I have about 100 christmas LP’s ranging from childrens to classical. My favorites are Dean Martin, Perry Como and Burl Ives- super smooth singing with angelic choirs of voices in the background, strings, bells and all the trimmings for a wintery soundscape.

I never imagined writing a Christmas song. Someone actually suggested it. I wrote this song last year a couple of days before Christmas – I feel like you cannot capture a “fake” feeling, I needed to be in that drowsy, hot cocoa-induced Christmas mood.

The song itself, like many of the songs I write, developed quickly – a stanza popped right out followed by a  catchy chorus. The kids, my wife and I sang this tune all week.

This year I wrote the remainder of the lyrics. All I had at first was “Deck the halls with boughs of holly, rock n roll with Dad and Mommy” – which is an awesome line, but not quite enough to fill a song.

What was it like creating your own Christmas song? Were there any challenges putting together the lyrics and laying down the rhythm?

This song was most definitely challenging. My goal for children’s music, is to make it family music. Music that parents not only tolerate, but enjoy, and find themselves singing along or after they turn the track off. Christmas songs are the same way. The topic of Christmas gives a writer so much to work with, yet it’s so specific and it’s been done so many times its hard to be different and it’s hard to balance on that line of cheesy or good. Being that children’s music hosts the same issue for me this became a really fun challenge.

I took phrases from some of the most well-known Christmas songs and put them together to write a new song all together. After the fact, I realized I was inspired by Build to Spill’s song “You were Right” (an amazing song using lyrics from classic rock artists like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and John Cougar Mellencamp).

The song started with guitar and vocals, I thought it was too normal, sounded like anything else. I don’t usually have this problem, typically the ideas flow. I’m a drummer first so I did just that. I kept the vocals, and played a drum pattern over the melody with no accompaniment, just drums and vocals. EUREKA! A catchy bass line followed and what we now here is a real rock Christmas song. There are some really neat sounds I was able to conjure up to give an overall christmas feeling. Listen for the melodica, chimes, palm muted guitars, and of course sleigh bells.

What was it like having your family get on the track with you? Should we anticipate a whole Napolitano Holiday album in the future?

Yes, that is the plan. We most recently had a pick up drum cicrcle after my daughter;s birthday, it really rattled my creative cage. We are working on a bunch of Napolitano family creations at the moment. Music is so special to me, and anytime I play music with my friends or family it is just that much more special.

What was the first Christmas song you remember listening to and loving as a kid?

There are two, first is what you hear at the very top of this track, there is a music box playing ‘White Christmas’ – this was a gift from my grandfather – I listened to it over an dover. It’s an emotional melody and song. Alot of these christmas songs are in minor keys and pull at the heartstrings, this one does that to me.

My all time favorite songs is Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra.

“I love those J-I-N-G-L-E Bells, BONG”…..great song!!! Everything about this. It’s fun, it’s light and it’s so very happy. The production, the swinging vocals, the choir singing – it’s just an incredible piece of work.

You said that in your family a huge Christmas celebration is a tradition- what makes family such an important part of Christmas for you?

I think it may be the other way around. Christmas is an important part of our family.
That time we all sit together and talk, and eat. Like any holiday, it’s special. You take those moments, forget about all your worries and embrace in the love and laughter of your family.  Now don’t get me wrong, the food is a huge part of it! We are a big Italian family, the food is fantastic!

Do you have a favorite Christmas tradition?

I love watching people open the gifts I buy them. I really do. But my favorite Christmas Tradition is singing the Twelve Days of Christmas with the entire Napolitano Family. Which includes my father, his 6 siblings and their children and children’s children. All 50 of us, Old uncles and aunts, the little kids – everyone has their part (and have for years) Myself, my brother,  and my Uncle Mauro & Aunt Ida  are Four calling birds.
My father and I dress in ruffle tuxes and conduct the song, we draw on fake mustaches it’s hilarious.

If Santa had a favorite christmas song, what do you think it would be?

Bruce Springsteen’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”  (but, we are hoping one day it will be Preschool of Rock’s Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas)

The holiday season is among us! The leaves are falling, the snow is coming, and we can’t wait cuddle up with family and hold a warm cup of hot cocoa in our hands! However, not all families and little ones are as fortunate as we are. Some will be cold, hungry, and without a home. During this season of giving thanks, we at Preschool of Rock think it is extremely important to give to those in need. Donating to charity is a great way to teach your little ones the importance of appreciating what they have and spreading joy amongst others who are less fortunate.

1. Clothing Drives: Donating used clothes is a great way to help those in need. If your child has clothes he or she has outgrown, help them sort the clothes out and put them in boxes. Explain to your child why you are donating the items (for the little boys and girls out there who need it more!) and have them go to the drive with you.

2. Toy Drives/Toys for Tots: There are so many little rockstars who don’t have the equipment to rock on!  If there are some books lying around the house that have already been read, consider donating them to a shelter or local school in need. Donating some toys that your child no longer plays with can make some other little ones very happy. We know this could be difficult- children become newly attached to toys they abandon once the toys are about to be taken away. This could be a good moment to teach your child  the importance of sharing with others.

3. Food Baskets: Putting together food baskets is a common and easy way to give back! Go shopping at the local supermarket or clean out your pantry for canned goods (and other imperishable items) that can go to families. If you want to be super generous, try buying two of everything you need for Thanksgiving. The second set of everything you buy can create a huge package that you can send to a shelter or soup kitchen for their own holiday meals.

4. Create a Charity Jar: Making a charity bank is a nice way for you and your child to give. Whenever they find spare change around the house, tell them to put it in the charity jar (which you can decorate if you wish). Or, tell them to remember whenever someone does something nice for them. Have them put a coin in the jar every time someone gives to them so they can see how great a feeling giving to others is. Have your child see you put money in the charity jar- children often copy what they see adults around them doing!

5. Helping Others: Whether it’s helping cleaning up your next door neighbor’s yard, or giving the elderly couple down the street an invite to Thanksgiving dinner, reaching out to your immediate community can go a long way.  Think of those around you who might need some extra care this Holiday season and figure out ways you can give to them.
A little giving goes a long way. We hope you and your families have a loving and giving Holiday season!
